Fishermens Walk: Long Route

Walk with Sexisenderistas

Spanish

This is a longer version of the Fishermen's Walk. We walk from Cotobro to La Herradura and there are lovely views of the beaches and the bays below. This walk is 14.49 km long, has an elevation of 476 m and takes approximately 4 hours to complete.

LONG DESCRIPTION

This walk is called the Fishermen's Walk (or Camino de los Pescadores) and follows the path that fishermen used to use to take their catch back to La Herradura.

The walk starts at the corner of Paseo de Cotobro and Playa Cotobro. We walk on to Playa El Muerto via a stone walkway built into the rocks. We cross the beach and up a series of stone steps for about 100 metres. We then follow the path to the left towards Peñón del Lobo and reach the Mirador del Peñon del Lobo, the highest point of the first part of the walk. Here there are fantastic views of the beaches of Almuñécar, Marina del Este, Punta de la Mona, and the bays below .

The route continues and comes out at the large hotel Hotel Best Alcazar and from here, we take the path to the right towards La Herradura. After the first bend, we see some steps which go up to the Punta de la Mona lighthouse on the right and the Érmita de San José y Santa Rita on the left. The track then continues above the Playa del Berenguel and then down to La Herradura.

We then make our way back on the old Granada road which goes over and then under the new road. We then begin the descent down to Almuñécar, passing the Roman bridge on our way.

Note: The GPX time is the time on the GPX file. The GPX might not be accurate if during the walk the walkers went for a meal for example. Naismith is a formula based on distance and elevation.
